In The Booth - Science and Sound
Design plays various roles in today’s society. From working on album covers to everyday products for the general public, this program will focus on some of the processes of industrial design including design and problem solving challenges. Come check out this project created by a college student to make musicians with disabilities more mobile. Recommended for grades 4+.
Tessa Barnes is a third year industrial design student studying at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. She focuses on designs that can help different people with disabilities, and specifically focuses on universal design. In 2017, she won second place in the Aluminum Extrusion Council’s Student Design Competition with an “Extension” prosthetic for musicians. Barnes is currently working on a redesigned transfer bench for the 2019 International Housewares Association Student Design Competition.
