FREE Black Music Month Celebration at Grammy Museum Mississippi

Grammy Museum^® Mississippi has announced a special evening event to celebrate Black Music Month in June. The free community event, sponsored by the Nissan Foundation, will take place on Friday, June 19, at Grammy Museum Mississippi featuring special performances by The Gran Boiz. This program is also sponsored by Visit Mississippi, Mississippi Arts Commission, The Cotton House, and The Lyric Hotel.

“We are honored to celebrate the significate contributions of Black musicians to American music and culture with our Black Music Month event,” said Emily Havens, Executive Director of Grammy Museum Mississippi. “We’d also like to thank the Nissan Foundation for their support in making this free community event happen, along with our special guest performers The Gran Boiz!”

Taking place on Juneteenth, June 19, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Grammy Museum Mississippi, the event will feature food trucks, including a snow cone truck, and beverages — all available for purchase.

The free community event at Grammy Museum Mississippi is made possible by a grant from the Nissan Foundation, which supports educational programs that promote a greater appreciation and understanding of America’s diverse cultural heritage. Initiated by President Jimmy Carter in 1979, Black Music Month, or African-American Music Appreciation Month, is observed in June to celebrate and recognize the significant contributions of Black musicians to American music and culture. The event has evolved into a month-long celebration of the diverse and influential role of Black artists across various genres.
