Be the Heart Behind History
At GRAMMY Museum Mississippi, our volunteers are the rhythm that keeps everything in tune. From event setup to student tours, every volunteer helps us inspire, educate, and celebrate the power of music. Whether you’re behind the scenes or greeting guests at the door, you’re helping make every museum visit unforgettable.
Long-term volunteer applications are accepted year-round.
Group 1: Ops Squad (Operations Team)
Tagline: The movers, shakers, and event makers.
The Ops Squad is the backbone of our operations — the team that keeps our events, exhibits, and facility running smoothly. These volunteers bring energy and organization to everything from public programs to off-site events.
Example Events & Tasks:
• Public Programs
• Facility Rentals
• Off-site Events
Roles Include:
• Moving tables, chairs, and event setup equipment
• Assisting with event setup and breakdown
• Organizing and transporting items to and from off-site storage
• Restocking event supplies
• Monitoring entrances or assisting with wayfinding
• Painting and prepping exhibit walls
• Patching holes and preparing gallery spaces
• Packing, handling, and moving artifacts
• Assembling display materials
• Cleaning and prepping gallery floors and walls before new installations
Group 2: EdVantage Team (Education Volunteers)
Tagline: Turning museum visits into memorable moments.
The EdVantage Team is all about connection and creativity. These volunteers support our education programs, working directly with teachers and students to turn each visit into a meaningful learning experience.
Example Events & Tasks:
• School Tours
• Workshops & Youth Programming
Roles Include:
• Greeting and guiding school groups and teachers
• Leading or assisting with interactive tours and learning stations
• Supporting hands-on educational activities
• Serving lunches or snacks when needed
• Collecting feedback from teachers
• Helping with classroom setup and cleanup
Group 3: The Box Office Beat
Tagline: The first note in every visitor’s experience.
The Box Office Beat creates a warm, welcoming first impression for every guest. From ticketing to guest services, these volunteers are key to delivering the exceptional GRAMMY Museum Mississippi experience visitors expect.
Example Events & Tasks:
• Adult Group Tours
• Public Programs
• American Cruise Line Tours
Roles Include:
• Welcoming and greeting guests at the entrance
• Answering visitor questions about the museum, exhibits, and programs
• Assisting with ticketing or check-in as needed
• Providing maps, brochures, and accessibility information
• Directing groups to starting points for tours or events
Group 4: The Tour Tempo Team
Tagline: Keeping every guest in rhythm from arrival to departure.
The Tour Tempo Team ensures guests have a smooth, enjoyable experience during busy days, premium excursions, and special events. These volunteers bring friendly energy and helpful guidance throughout the museum.
Events & Activities:
• American Cruise Line Premium Excursions
• High-traffic special events
Roles Include:
• Walking the museum floor to offer directions and assistance
• Answering questions about exhibits and programs
• Guiding visitors based on cruise or tour schedules
• Providing courtesy assistance and hospitality
• Escorting guests to the right locations within the museum
• Assisting with guided tours as needed
- Volunteers must be 16 years or older to serve
- Volunteers are encouraged to serve a minimum of 10 shifts in a season, August – July in order to receive extra-special Museum perks
- Compassion to deal with subject matter that is not always appealing to everyone

FAQs
To be considered for a volunteer position, please complete the volunteer application below. The Volunteer Coordinator for the Museum will contact you regarding your application within 5 business days.
While each opportunity is unique, most require a minimum time commitment of 2 hours.
Museum policy requires that all volunteers, new and returning, attend an orientation before beginning their work-specific training for the upcoming season. This orientation introduces the volunteer to museum-wide policies and procedures related to volunteering at the Museum. Orientation will be scheduled for early August and may be rescheduled based on need.
All volunteers will be expected to attend training sessions hosted throughout the year in order to stay fresh on our ever-changing exhibits.

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE:
We offer long-term opportunities from August-July. Service areas include:
- Greeters: Greet visitors, provide directions, introduce the experience, answer general questions regarding the Museum and the community, and hand out brochures and maps.
- Gallery Guides: Greet visitors, answer questions about the exhibits, and provide tours as requested.
- Ushers: Provide basic guest relations, seat guests, and distribute programs for various events.
- Program Promotion: Greet patrons and distribute promotional material on or offsite as requested.
